Do It Yourself: Blogging on Holidays

Some very strong-willed blogger souls may be able to resist the breeze coming through the window of the hotel room by the beach or the smell of fresh dew right at the porch of the cottage by the mountain, as may they whose lives simply depend on the internet.

I fail to fall into either category!

Try as I may, I simply can not stay in front of my macbook for longer than half an hour when I am on holiday. Trust me, I have tried it numerous times with all the gadgets my (not that much) money can buy. For instance, no matter how many times I remind myself to check in on Foursquare during the holidays, chances are I will end up forgetting all about it!

If I force myself, I feel like I’m betraying my own soul.

Do It Yourself: A learner or a doer?

Learn it first!

A ‘yay’ or a ‘nay’?

As opposed to the ‘regular’ way where we learn things academically at school before practicing them, ‘Learning by doing’ is commonly known and practiced by them who love learning things by themselves a.k.a. autodidact. In this case, there is no ‘versus’ to me because I like learning both ways. There are things in life that I have to study first – be it in a formal or informal education – before I can practice them. Language is definitely one of them. However, there are also things I do straight away and later improve my skills. Take blogging, for instance. I learn about it after I started the journey in 2007 and as I shared on the first blog posted on this site, all these times, I have learned about blogging, photography and web design.

It all changed in May 2011.

A year in review.

Last month, April 9th 2011, was the first anniversary of this website of mine. On the one hand, a lot of things have been done in the real life since that day which will bring some changes to this site soon.

On the other hand, it took me almost one month to finally post a blog to mark the first year of this website. I couldn’t help but wondering, what to post for my ‘a year in review’ blog?

The challenge lies in being honest with what I have been doing here all these times. Fortunately, I didn’t have to look any further because the answers are right here on this site.

As usual, I’m doing it my own way.
